Sorting Animal Features

First Grade continues to move forward in their science units. We are now learning all about animals, their needs to survive, their habitats and so much more! We spoke about the different features animals have and how we can sort them. Morah spoke about sorting and various ways we can sort things, by shape, color, size, etc. We took our geometric shapes container and demonstrated what we learned about sorting, then we applies our knowledge to our current science lesson. The class was divided three groups of four. Each table received 4 sorting rings, 4 index cards, a pack of animal pictures and pencils.

First- Open their sorting rings
Second- Write fur, feathers, scales and smooth skin on each index card
Third- Each group had to discuss the pictures of the animals and sort them in the correct ring
Last- We discussed our findings

This experiment really had the children communicating with each other in order to have the whole process run smoothly. I was so proud of how well they did!
